New API released - Geo Location Messaging
After a successful journey of various demos, pilots and exhibitions, the Geo Location Messaging API is now available on Ericsson Labs.
- The Geo Location Messaging API enables fast, simple and cost-efficient location-based content delivery.
- Location-Based Service Providers can use the API to push data content to clients in customer-selected locations
- Users can subscribe to certain information channels or applications (services) and enable push content reception
The idea for this API was born in 2010. It arose from the demand for road hazard warning systems that could provide a messaging system which safely delivers messages in real time to other vehicles in a specified danger zone.
Not wanting to limit this fast, flexible and reliable messaging system to only road hazard warning systems, we created a somewhat more generic API to provide the capabilities to other applications including location-based advertising, gaming, social networking or some other location-based service you've been dreaming about.
This is just the beginning. Many more steps are to come, providing additional features such as larger message sizes or enhanced dashboard functions. We are curious to see how you are going to use our API, so drop us a line and let us know!
